The Student Engagement Assessment Toolkit is an innovative multimodal learning analytics framework designed to provide teachers and researchers with objective evidence of student engagement during programming and educational robotics activities.
The toolkit combines eye-tracking, body-orientation analysis, depth sensing, behavioural analytics, engagement dashboards, automated reporting, and a transparent Focus Index model to assess student attention and participation during agile learning activities.
A key innovation is its ability to distinguish productive off-screen interaction with educational robots from actual disengagement, addressing a long-standing challenge in educational robotics classrooms.
The toolkit includes a visual reporting module including engagement timelines, gaze heatmaps, and evidence-based analytics suitable for both classroom practice and educational research.
The framework has already been implemented and validated through a complete engineering research project developed within ALPER-EU, resulting in a fully operational prototype and a comprehensive research evaluation.
The following video includes a demonstration of the toolkit and a presentation of its features and technology
